Big Lama outdoors with payload, video
Although my flying skills are barely enough to call me a novice RC pilot, I was eager to test the lifting capability of my E Sky Big Lama RC helicopter . I tried it today with a 50 gram weight attached to the skid, which you can see in the video below. Despite reducing the battery life to 5 minutes the helicopter performed very well.
200 gram HTC TyTN II
With the 50 gram weight test being a succes I wanted to try and lift my old phone, weighing in at 200 grams. Unfortunatly this proved too much for the Big Lama, which did not get off the ground. With a little help from my father, who held the helicopter above his head, it stayed in the air for a few seconds but it was unable to maintain its altitude.
100 gram GoPro Hero HD
I am going to try and fly around with the GoPro Hero HD next weekend. I am confident the Big Lama will be able to handle this payload, and hopefully the Hero HD will be able to shoot some nice videos despite the vibrations generated by the helicopter.

Thanks for your comment, it is the first ever on this website :D!
The Big Lama is capable of lifting a 100 grams camera, and it is a great helicopter to start with. But as soon as you have some experience flying RC helicopters you will probably want to get a helicopter that can carry you camera with a little more ease.

Hi @Forex Strategies Revealed, I have made a couple of videos with the Big Lama and GoPro Hero HD which you can watch here:

But you have probably already seen those. I have bought a bigger helicopter but am not yet ready to fly it with a camera. As soon as I am the videos will be posted on this site.

Hi mate,
I'm just doing a bit of research into whether to, or which helicopter to buy in order to film some heli-footage using a 117 gram cameraphone. Have found your posts very useful so thanks a lot!
I wondered whether you would be able to give me any info or photos regarding the mounting you used to harness the camera?
Many thanks! Good blog!
Regards,
Ross Gilbert
